Dr Angelika Claußen argues that the perspective of women in the nuclear chain has been neglected up to now. Radiation health effects are more harmful for women than men, but radiation protection continues to be based on studies with the “reference man”. She cites examples to show that women’s involvement in research, as in protests against uranium mining and processing as well as civil and military utilization was successful in many ways. However, the final step to keep uranium in the ground still needs to be fought for.
